Molde Fjordstuer is located on the waterfront in town Reknes in Molde. Molde evolved as a settlement in the 1500s. Export of wood loads primarily to the Netherlands created urban development. The origin of the name is Storgården Molde (today Moldegård), meaning "good soil". The city that received city status in 1742 today has approx. 30,000 inhabitants.
Over the years, the city has been the city of administration for the whole region, formerly Romsdal County, today the county of Møre og Romsdal.
